Ceramic is a non-metallic inorganic composite material that is highly ductile in the natural state and becomes hard after firing. The material is primarily composed of different clays: kaolin, sandy clays, and refractory clays. Ceramics can be compact body type, such as stoneware and porcelain, or porous body type, such as earthenware and terracotta.

Brick is a man-made construction material made with clay fired in kilns or, in antiquity, baked in the sun. The raw material of brick is clay (kaolinite in its purest form) with a large number of additional constituents including calcium carbonate, silica, alumina, sand, and organic materials; different compositions determine the characteristics of the material in terms of machinability, mechanical strength, colour, and plasticity.

A polymer is a macromolecule composed of many repeating molecular subunits. The subunits are formed by electrical bonds that weakly attract the molecules together. Because their bonds are weak, thermoplastic polymers readily soften when heated, allowing manufacturers to mould them into a wide range of shapes, then resoften them and mould them again. Polymers are recognized also for their low weight, chemical inertia, and vibration resistance. These materials are frequently fibre-reinforced, meaning charged with short or long fibres of materials such as carbon or glass to impart properties such as increased mechanical strength or heat resistance.
