How ultrasonic cutting works
Widely used in the aerospace and racing sectors, honeycomb materials assure low weight and structural stiffness. Machining honeycomb panels with conventional tools however produces a large volume of dust and suboptimal surface quality because the material is torn.
The system with ultrasonic blades and discs operates through vibration of the tools that break the molecular bonds of the material without abrasion; these features ensure accurate cuts, elimination of the exposed material fibres and absence of chips.
